Sludge and Sediment Sampling Kits

Sludge and Sediment Sampling Kits

AMS sludge and sediment sampling kits include everything you need to collect relatively undisturbed samples from non-cohesive materials and various types of impoundments.

The Multi-Stage Sediment Sampler Kit uses the advanced multi-stage sludge core tip, plastic soil core catcher, and liner to prevent loss of the sample upon retrieval.

The AMS SBS System is ideal for discrete interval sediment sampling in rivers, lakes, wetlands, and estuaries because it stops caving sediment.

  • Aluminum Tank Sampling Kit
    Aluminum Tank Sampling Kit
Easily collect sludge samples from the bottom of petroleum tanks with this unique & user friendly sampling kit. Based on the popular design of the ‘AMS Multi-Stage Sediment Sampling Kit’, the components in this kit are similar, only they are made from lightweight aluminum. This proves to be crucial, as often times tanks can be 50ft.+ in height; therefore keeping your sampler and extension strand ‘lightweight’ is a necessity. Having a solid/rigid extension strand gives the operator the ability to push and twist the sampler deep into the sludge. Two separate core tips come with the kit. The AMS "valved core tip" has a built in 1-way valve which resembles a door hinge. As the sampler is pressed into the sludge, the 1-way valve opens and fills the sampler. When the sampler is pulled up from the sludge the valve closes and traps any sediment and liquid inside the sampler. The second tip, the (core catcher tip) uses a disposable plastic soil catcher that fits on the end of a 2" plastic liner. As the sampler is pushed into the sludge, the core catcher teeth open up and allowing the material to enter the sampler. As the sampler is raised, these teeth close and restrict the sample from falling back out. The specialized top cap of the sampler is also an important component of the kit. During deployment, the viton rubber flap cap opens and allows excess air and water to escape through the oversized vent holes of the sampler top cap – eliminating pressure buildup. When the sampler is lifted the flap closes over these vent holes and creates suction to assist in retaining the sample. There are qty: four 12” long sampler body sections in the kit. Meaning, if necessary, a 4ft. long sampler can be assembled. Extra 12” body sections may be purchased to create a longer sampler. Qty: three, 4ft. long ‘square’ extension rods are included with the kit. Extra extensions may be added to accomplish deeper depths.   Includes: 12" base section, three 12" body sections, vented top cap, three 4' square extensions, valved core tip, core catcher core tip, plastic liner, plastic end caps, 2" soil core catcher, universal slip wrench, cross handle, and the AMS deluxe carrying case.   Benefits: Lightweight Sturdy Aluminum Construction Square Quick Connect Fittings Easy to use Spark Resistant   More Info: Aluminum Tank Sampling Kit

  • Professional Series Multi-Stage Sediment / Sludge Sampler Kit
Professional Series Multi-Stage Sediment / Sludge Sampler Kit
Professional Series Multi-Stage Sediment/Sludge Sampler Kit! This sampling kit provides all of the components needed to collect sludge and sediment samples up to 4' in length. The 12" base section and three extra body sections allow you to assemble a sampler that is 12", 24", 36", or 48". in length. This kit was designed for soil sampling professional who wants the strongest, most durable connection on their extensions, cross handle, slide hammer, and sampler cap. The professional series 3/4" threaded extensions are constructed of larger 1" diameter chrome molybdenum tubing and are powder-coated safety orange for added rust resistance. The redesigned 10 lb. rubber-coated slide hammer is equipped with a more robust 3/4"-diameter inner slide bar that makes it more reliable and prevents bending of the bar. The new multi-stage flap check cap includes a thicker (.800") collar & was designed to match up with the larger 3/4" threaded female connection of the new professional slide hammer to provide increased durability. Kit components include 12" multi-stage base section, three 12" multi-stage extension sections, 2". multi-stage core tip, 2" multi-stage valved core tip, three 4" extensions, 2" x 12" OD plastic liner, two 2". end caps, 2" core catcher, universal slip wrench, two crescent wrenches, 18" rubber-coated cross handle, slide hammer, and deluxe carrying case. The top cap, core tip, valved core tip, multi-stage sampler, multi-stage extension sections, and extensions are made of stainless steel.
  • Soggy Bottom Sampler System
    Soggy Bottom Sampler System
Stops caving sediment! Use this manually-driven sampler for discrete interval sediment sampling in rivers, lakes, wetlands, and estuaries. To obtain a sample, the sampler is lowered to the surface as a dual tube or driven down to the desired depth where sampling is to begin below the surface. Upon reaching the desired sampling depth, the inner rods attached to the internal drive tip are retracted and removed, and additional extensions are added. Then, the internal drive tip is released and retained in a chamber at the top of the sampler. Next, the slide hammer is attached, and the sampler is driven down to collect the sample. Once the sample has been collected, the rods and sampler are back-hammered out of the bore hole. If sampling in harder or tighter sediments, the rods and sampler can be jacked out of the sample boring using the optional removal jack and pull cap. After removal, the sampler disassembles easily to allow access to the sample liners which can then be capped off for transport to the lab. Features include:   Two (2) o-rings are used on the internal drive tip to minimize the chance of cross-contamination Core catcher helps prevent the loss of the sediment sample The sampler can take continuous or discrete samples from the sediment surface to 4' in depth   Includes: Sampler, one (1) 4' x 1 1/2" O.D. plastic liner, two (2) 2' x 1 1/2" O.D. plastic liners, one (1) top metal catcher, one (1) plastic basket retainer, three (3) 3' extensions, one (1) 30 lb. slide hammer, cleaning brushes, and a deluxe padded carrying case.
  • Russian Sediment/Peat Borer Complete Kit
    Russian Sediment/Peat Borer Complete Kit
The Russian Peat Borer (7.5 cm x 60cm model shown) is a side filling chambered-type sampler. This discrete point sampler enables one to drive the sampler to any point in the sediment profile in the closed (empty) position. Once the target depth is reached, the “T” handle is turned clockwise to initiate the sampling while the pivotal cover plate supports the cutting action of the bore. As the sampler is turned 180 degrees, the sharpened edge of the bore longitudinally cuts a semi-cylindrical shaped sample until the opposite side of the cover plate is contacted. The contained sample can now be recovered without risk of contamination by overlying sediments. The sample is extruded from the bore by a counterclockwise rotation where sample rests on cover plate ready for sectioning.
