Soil AugersAMS soil augers are commonly used for obtaining disturbed soil samples at or near the surface and for boring to depths where samples may be obtained with a soil sampler or soil core sampler. AMS augers are available in all stainless steel for EPA testing or carbon steel bits with stainless steel cylinders for general soil sampling and augering. Perfect for augering shallow depths, AMS soil augers can also auger deeper depths and are generally limited by only the time and muscle of the user. In fact, users have recorded going over 100 ft using the AMS soil auger in a variety of soil conditions! But, if you want to speed up the process and rest your back muscles, AMS offers powered options too. AMS also offers Auger Repair Services. Soil ProbesAMS soil probes are the most basic soil sampling tool for agronomists, geologists, agricultural consultants, farmers and other soil scientists. Like all AMS sampling equipment, AMS soil probes are robust and easy to use. Most are used to collect small diameter samples at or near the ground surface. They allow you to provide a quick soil profile or description, and to determine soil moisture content. Samples may also be collected directly into a liner with some models to allow for later chemical analysis of the soil sample. All AMS probes cut a core sample slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the probe body to allow for easy removal of the core from the cylinder. They are made of nickel-plated or unplated chrome molybdenum type 4130, or are all stainless steel. All probes also feature a heat-treated tip, and replaceable tip options are available.
Soil Core SamplersSoil core sampling equipment is used to collect virtually undisturbed soil core samples for soil profiling and environmental investigations. AMS offers soil core samplers, split soil core samplers, and multi-stage soil core samplers. All of these quality soil core sampling tools allow the user to collect soil core samples into removable liners. The split core soil core sampler also allows the user to open the soil core sampler body to view the soil core after sampling. Soil core samples may be collected at the surface or from a pre-augered borehole. To collect small diameter, soil cores at or near the subsurface, AMS also offers a variety of soil probes that may be used with or without liners. *Note: When sampling from a borehole, AMS recommends using a planer auger to remove loose dirt from the borehole prior to retrieving your soil core sample.
Shovels and ScoopsAMS shovels and scoops are ideal for general purpose scooping and collection of disturbed samples. The AMS heavy-duty steel sharpshooter creates deep, narrow holes, even in hard, rocky soil. The durable stainless steel shovel can withstand caustic and corrosive materials that would normally damage other types of shovels, and is easily decontaminated for environmental soil sampling purposes. And, AMS scoops may be used for general soil sampling or compositing. AMS shovels and scoops are available with or without rubber handles. A folding stainless steel shovel, the U-Dig-it sampler, is also available.
Soil Sampling KitsAMS soil sampling kits provide complete, compact systems that utilize our most popular augers, samplers, and sampling components. Most AMS sampling kits include soil augers, soil core samplers, extensions, cross handles, slide hammers, and either a lightweight or heavy-duty carrying case. The carrying cases allow our soil sampling kits to be very portable and easy to keep organized. You can also purchase the items from any AMS soil sampling kit individually to replace worn parts or to create your own custom soil sampling kit.
