Agriculture

Farmers and researchers in the agricultural industry have used AMS sampling equipment for over 50 years. The AMS Step Probe, Soil Recovery Probes, and a variety of one and two-piece augers are used in the agricultural sampling market to obtaining disturbed samples at or near the surface and for boring to depths where more precise samples can be obtained. AMS now offers a variety of nematode sampling equipment, ATV-mounted PowerProbe rigs, and one and two-piece open-faced augers.

Many AMS items commonly used in the agricultural industry are listed below.
  • Agricultural Soil Augers
    Agricultural Soil Augers
AMS offers a wide variety of auger heads so you can select the most suitable auger for your specific soil type. AMS augers use either a Signature Series, 5/8" Threaded or Quick Connect connection type to connect to extension pieces and cross handles. Extension pieces come in various lengths, and AMS cross handles are available with or without ratcheting action. One-piece augers – which provide the auger head, extension and cross handle as a single unit – are also available. The new one-piece regular, mud, and open-face auger designs are perfect for farmers and researchers who need a robust and durable one-piece solution for sampling shallow depths. For those who need to reach deeper depths, the open-face auger design is also available as a seperate auger head that connects to AMS extensions using the Signature Series, 5/8” Threaded or Quick Connect connection types.
  • Hay & Forage Probes
    Hay & Forage Probes
These probes are ideal for obtaining 12” or 24” representative core samples for quick visual inspection and laboratory analysis.   The basic model is a 7/8” OD probe with a heat-treated serrated tip and chamfered extraction slot. For best results, the sampler should be emptied with the extraction tool after each core has been taken. This will eliminate unnecessary compaction and will provide a more accurate core. The cores from this sampler are emptied directly into a bucket or sample bag.   The deluxe model includes a (1 liter) plastic canister capable of holding approximately 20 cores. The canister can be opened quickly by sliding the locking shaft collar away from the bottom cap. Alternatively, the top of the canister may be removed by unscrewing the top cap with built in drill adapter. The sample can be emptied into a larger collection bag or the canister can be sealed with two plastic end caps and sent to the lab for analysis.   Both models require 1/2" chuck drills for operation (24V recommended). • Basic Hay & Forage Probes Include: Probe body, 1/2" drill adapter, and hay core probe plunger. • Deluxe Hay & Forage Probes Include: Probe body, hay core top cap with drill adapter, hay core bottom cap, a locking shaft collar, 3" x 12" plastic liner, two 3" plastic end caps • Material: Gold-zinc plated, 4130 chrome molybdenum steel probe body with heat-treated serrated tip, aluminum hay core cup top and bottom caps, and hay core probe plunger.
  • Agricultural Soil Probes
    Agricultural Soil Probes
The AMS Step Probes and Soil Recovery Probes are used to obtain disturbed samples at or near the surface. AMS offers a variety of soil probes that allow farmers and researchers to quickly and easily collect shallow soil samples.   Below are the AMS probes that are most commonly used in the agricultural industry. The probes featured on below all utilize the 5/8'' threaded connection. Visit our connection types page for more information on the various connection types, and our soil probes page for additional soil probes.
  • Magictec Soil Sampler
    Magictec Soil Sampler
The Magictec automatic soil sampler provide high quality samplers because the probe collects the total soil structure for the depth you choose. The adjustable limit switch ensures the same depth core will be taken consistently. The lightweight, compact and simple design allows the ability to move the Magictec automatic soil sampler from vehicle to vehicle in just minutes. The simple design affords less maintenance and ease of use. Simply press the control up or down whether installed rocker switch is used or with wireless remote.
  • Agricultural Sampling Kits
    Agricultural Sampling Kits
AMS agricultural soil sampling kits allow farmers and agronomists to collect shallow soil samples quickly and easily. The Soil Field Auger Kits and One-Piece Augers are simple solutions for farmers or agricultural consultants needing to auger to depths up to 4ft. AMS Soil Fertility Kits were created to meet the needs of agronomists and other agricultural researchers who are cutting and drawing samples from a variety of soil conditions.   Below are the AMS augers, auger kits, and probing kits that are most commonly used in the agricultural industry. They either feature a one-piece design, utilize 5/8'' threaded connection. Visit our connection types page for more information on the various connection available.
  • Nematode Samplers
    Nematode Samplers
The new line of AMS nematode samplers is the first collection of products made to improve the efficiency of sampling for parasitic nematodes. As a result, nematode sampling is more thorough, faster and easier than ever before. AMS nematode samplers are currently being used in Idaho Montana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Washington and Canada.   PCN sampling services using USDA approved sampling methods for seed potato and commercial production fields are provided by KirK Engineering & Natural Resources, Inc. – an environmental and natural resource consulting firm with offices in Sheridan and Missoula, Montana. • 9110-Ag-Probe
    9110-Ag-Probe
The 9110 Ag-Probe is the newest model in the AMS PowerProbe line up, designed for use in agricultural and environmental sampling. This model can be mounted on most standard UTV units that meet the standard weight limits. The 9110 Ag-Probe is powered by a self-contained 13 HP Briggs and Stratton gas engine with electric start.   This model was designed for the user in mind with a collapsible mast to have a transport height of 80 inches to be able to fit inside most enclosed trailers.   To quickly view some of our other ag equipment, click here:     For more technical information about 9110 Ag Probe, please view:   Or contact our professional sales team: Ken Lipscomb Eastern US/International Sales 800-635-7330 ext. 160 Cell: 706-680-9015 kenl@ams-samplers.com Ryan Anderson Western US/Canada Sales 800-635-7330 ext. 143 Cell: 208-406-9341 ryana@ams-samplers.com Tim Herndon Midwestern US Sales 800-635-7330 ext. 161 Cell: 913-6872482 tim@ams-samplers.com
