This dredge, often called a Van Veen grab or Van Veen dredge, is great for collecting sandy or silty sediment samples in freshwater and coastal environments. Its weight makes it effective for shallow or soft-bottom conditions. When the dredge contacts the bottom, the trigger mechanism activates to close the jaws securely, retaining the sample.
Like other Van Veen grab and Van Veen dredge designs, this sampler provides a simple, effective way to collect bottom samples with minimal disturbance to sediment layers. The jaw opening measures 6 in. (15.24 cm) X 6 in. (15.24 cm), providing a manageable sample volume for sediment studies and environmental assessments.
