When discrete sampling is required, boreholes can be advanced to a target depth before core sampling tools are utilized to subsequently collect relatively undisturbed soil samples. In stony soils, rocky conditions can increase penetration resistance and create higher torque loads in the field. To manage these conditions, stony augers feature heavy-duty bits and a thick body to increase structural strength and reduce the risk of twisting or bending.
