Mud Augers for Cohesive Soils

Mud augers are designed for cohesive soils, utilizing a widely spaced bit configuration for manual borehole creation and efficient advancement through wet, fine-grained soil conditions. Across agricultural, geotechnical, environmental, and groundwater applications, they support the collection of disturbed soil samples.

Where investigations require discrete sampling, boreholes can be advanced to a target depth before core sampling tools are utilized to subsequently collect relatively undisturbed soil samples. Their widely spaced bit configuration and open-cylinder design with dual-wall openings facilitate effective material removal in cohesive conditions.

In cohesive soils, high moisture content can increase adhesion and resistance during advancement, reducing efficiency. For higher torque applications, reinforced mud augers incorporate gusset reinforcement at the rounded bail to increase structural strength and reduce the risk of twisting or bending.
